Be True to You: True Pilates
|

"I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They'd be happier."
- Joseph Hubertus Pilates, in 1965, age 86
|
Juli Willeman, M.A.C. West's new True Pilates instructor, discovered Pilates after suffering from a running injury in 2001. As it turns out, the injury had a benefit: Willeman discovered a new way of life.
Now, she wants to introduce you to True Pilates. Tone muscle, increase flexibility and learn breath and awareness philosophies through True Pilates. The exercise is also very beneficial in preventing injuries and enhancing sport performance.
"I've been active all my life and have never felt as great as when I have just completed a Pilates workout," Willeman says. "There's just nothing like it."
Willeman returned to St. Louis in January 2004 after studying the True Pilates method under master teachers Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejia Santo in New York City. Romana's Pilates certification program consists of at least 600 hours of training, including seminars, observation, teaching practice and written as well as practical exams. She now owns and operates a fully equipped Pilates studio in Ballwin.
"Pilates focuses on building strength and flexibility with control from the powerhouse," Willeman says. "I've found that the balanced system of the True Pilates method enhances what you already do in your everyday life and adds to it, leaving you feeling refreshed and energized." |
