Hermann Trophy Kicks Off
Last year, ESPN cameras broadcast from the Missouri Athletic Club's Art Lounge. Reporters and soccer fans awaited the announcement of college soccer's version of the Heisman Trophy.
On Jan. 6, 2006, the M.A.C. will present the Hermann Trophy. The top three male and female finalists will gather for a banquet, where the M.A.C. will announce the winners.
The Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy has honored the top male and female collegiate soccer players in the United States since 1986. The award represents the highest individual achievement in the sport.
The M.A.C. is already preparing for the Hermann Trophy winner. The awaited "Watch List" has been released, and ballots will be sent to Division I college soccer coaches in November. The "Watch List" contains players who are considered to be the top players entering the 2005 college season.
There are a few athletes with local ties on the list. St. Louis University junior John DiRaimondo (SLUH), University of North Carolina's Lori Chalupny (Nerinx Hall) and Texas A&M's Kati Jo Spisak (Parkway South).

Last year past President Mark Neil presented the two Hermann Trophy winners: Christine Sinclair of the University of Portland and Danny O'Rourke from Indiana University. Past winners include some of the biggest names in U.S. soccer today. Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm, Shannon MacMillan, Claudio Reyna, Alexi Lalas and Tony Meola all won the award prior to achieving international success.
