Imagine a hectic Monday morning, when the phone keeps ringing and clients ask for the impossible. But, when the clock tolls noon, all of it fades into the past.

On Monday, Jan. 9, the Downtown clubhouse will begin a weekly lunch-hour yoga class. Amy Schactman, a Yoga instructor for more than 15 years, says the noon workout will help busy businesspeople relieve Monday morning tension.

“A lot of times men’s lives are very high stress, and they don’t take the time to breathe and de-stress,” Schactman said. “This will make their whole day improve.”

Yoga is an excellent muscle strengthening and lengthening workout before, after or between cardio workouts. Without weights or cardio, Yoga can strengthen and improve muscles without the risk of injury.

Yoga not only strengthens and stretches muscles; people can gain awareness of where they hold their tension in their bodies. Hunched shoulders and aching backs are signs of built-up stress in the body. Yoga can help improve these symptoms by incorporating breathing, stretching and holding positions into a well-rounded workout.

“Some people thing yoga is just where you chant and breathe,” Schractman said. “There’s also the misconception that it’s just for women.”

Schractman says neither of these stereotypes is true. To find out what the yoga buzz is really all about, try it yourself. The eight-week session will begin at noon on Monday, Jan. 9. and only costs $50. Reserve your spot now because space is limited to 12 people. To sign up, call Jeff Tuhro at 314-539-4485.
