Mark Calendars for a Trip Back in Time
The M.A.C. presents a boxing event from the past
|
Round up your buddies and prepare yourselves for a trip back in time, when boxing matches were the most exciting way to pass a Friday night. Sip on cocktails, puff on cigars and sit on the edge of your seat as boxers punch, hit and eventually go down.
On Thursday, Feb. 9, boxers from the St. Louis Metro Boxing Club will square off in the ring at the First Annual M.A.C. Boxing Championships. Rediscover the excitement of boxing as Metro Club fighters compete against ranked opponents in various weight divisions. There will be a female bout as well.
Boxing has a rich history at the Club and was made an Olympic event for the first time in St. Louis in 1904. Afterward, amateur boxing became extremely popular at the Missouri Athletic Club, and the sport attracted spectators who wanted an evening of excitement.
Boxing is still as thrilling as it was in 1904.
These matches should be especially exciting; the St. Louis Metro Boxing Club is an extremely talented organization. The Club recently placed third among 31 teams at the 2005 national Golden Gloves championships.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. in a manner of true elegance. Sip on the cocktail of your choice and puff on a cigar from Jon's Pipe Shop while mingling with other guests and discussing the evening's prospects. At 7 p.m. sit down to a meal fit for a king, a New York strip with all of the trimmings. At 8:15 p.m., the fighting will begin. Cocktails will then be available by subscription.
Treat yourself to a night of fight for only $100 + gratuity per person. Or, round up your nine closest friends and get a table of 10 for only $750. Call 314-539-4470 to make reservations. |
