Dear Jim,

Gain the Edge on Fear
Enroll in a women's self-defense course
Most women are afraid of being attacked and unable to defend themselves. Don't live in fear; be pro-active about defending yourself. Gather up your daughters and gal pals for a self-defense workshop and never be afraid again.
On Tuesday, Feb. 28, join Instructor Dan Moriarty for a fun, informational workout that will teach you the same self-defense techniques police learn in the academy. From 6 to 9:30 p.m., you'll learn how to mentally and physically handle any threatening situation. You'll be amazed how your confidence will soar in only three-and-a-half hours.

Bringing Bridge Back
Texas hold'em and other popular poker games have swept the nation in the past few years, especially among America's youngest card holders. By some counts, as many as 80 million people play poker in the U.S.
Poker is not the first card game to be popular in America. During the 1940's, 44 percent of American households had at least one active bridge player. The M.A.C. Bridge Club wants to rejuvenate the popularity of the game with a monthly Bridge Night and weekly bridge lessons. They shouldn't have to try too hard. Check out Bridge Night on Tuesday, Feb. 21 or Beginning Bridge lessons on Mondays at M.A.C. West.

TV Time's Over
Give your child fun activities at the M.A.C.
Countless studies come to one common conclusion about America's children: They're heavier than ever.
The National Health
and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), has conducted research since 1963. The number of overweight children remained relatively stable from the 1960s to 1980, but in the past two decades the number has nearly doubled! The trend is alarming. Overweight kids are not only more likely to grow up to be heavy adults, but diseases that used to only occur in adults are now appearing in children.
