Food Network Host to Cook at the Club

Gathering for a home-cooked family dinner is less common in the U.S. than it used to be. The average American family spends more than $2,000 per year on dinners away from home, and 10 percent of those dinners come from McDonald’s, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Chef Giada De Laurentiis, host of Everyday Italian, strongly values the family dinner; that's where she learned the tools of her trade. On Thursday, April 13, the M.A.C. will host its own “family dinner,” and De Laurentiis will be the special guest. Learn to transform simple, everyday ingredients into create quick, healthy and satisfying meals for your family. Last year more than 200 hungry members and guests filled the Missouri Room to watch her share her family recipes at the M.A.C.

De Laurentiis was born in Rome, Italy and moved to Southern California when she was 7. Her family continued their Italian heritage in America with frequent family gatherings. There, De Laurentiis learned to prepare special family recipes. Since her initial passion was sparked, she has studied the art of cooking extensively. After attending school at the famed Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France, she became a professional chef. Upon returning to California, De Laurentiis worked in several Los Angeles restaurants before starting her own business, GDL.

De Laurentiis is now a leading expert on Italian cooking. Everyday Italian has been on the Food Network since 2003. She has since written an accompanying book, Everyday Italian: 125 Simple and Delicious Recipes (2005). In October 2005 she began hosting another show on the Food Network, Behind the Bash. Her newest cookbook, Giada’s Family Dinners, is due out in April 2006.

By adding a few modern twists, De Laurentiis’ recipes and technique are indispensable, and she wants to give M.A.C. members an exclusive peek into her well-crafted art! Mark your calendars now for Thursday, April 13. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity. Additional details are forthcoming.
