magine fishing in a peaceful April stream on an Ozark morning. The fish are biting, the sun is rising and your mind is calming. Then fast forward in time to a few hours later when you’re showered, refreshed and ready to eat what you caught on the stream.
This daydream can become a reality. On Friday, April 14 (Good Friday), join the Rod and Gun Club for a trout fishing expedition at Maramec Springs Park in St. James, Mo.
In order to get to Maramec Springs before the whistle blows at 6 a.m. (no one wants to miss the whistle), the Rod and Gun Club will leave M.A.C. West at 4:10 a.m. sharp. After hitting the stream along the mile-long spring branch, everyone will hopefully catch their limit. The Rod and Gun Club will check out the hatcheries and other sights within the park before heading back to M.A.C. West at 10:30 a.m.
Upon arrival at the West clubhouse, members can hand their trout over to Chef Matt, who will prepare the fish for lunch while they steam and shower. Chef Matt prepares trout beautifully and will cap off the morning with a worthwhile feast.
Maramec Springs is roughly 95 miles away in Phelps County, eight miles from St. James. Originally the site of the first successful ironworks west of Mississippi, Maramec is today an exceptionally beautiful spring. It mostly stocks Missouri strain rainbow trout, though there are some brown trout swimming about.
To effectively plan for the trout trip, the Rod and Gun Club will briefly gather on Saturday, April 8 at the Bass Pro store in St. Charles to get licenses, lines and lures.
This event has always been a fun and exciting in the past. The Rod and Gun Club hopes you can make it! To reserve your spot, contact James Harter by Wednesday, April 5 through e-mail or phone, 314-290-5903. Once the group has been gathered, a complete itinerary will be distributed. |
