This week in Jazz:
Debby Lennon and the Carolbeth Trio will be the debut performance at M.A.C. Jazz Nights. Debby's creamy, well-rounded voice flows perfectly with Carolbeth's gentle, light fingered piano playing. Together they create wonderful jazz standards along with cabaret and Broadway show material. They have had many performances together, as well as recorded an album, "I’m All Smiles.”
As her CD suggests, Debby is "all smiles," and she'll try to bring a smile to you on Sept. 15. She should have no problem, as Debby is very talented. A member of the St. Louis Symphony Chorus for 11 seasons, Debby made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall where she received a standing ovation. Onstage she is confident and at ease as she belts out laidback tunes. As a cappella octet and a local music instructor, Debby is highly regarded in the St. Louis area.
Carolbeth is also a very active member in the St. Louis musical community. The Carolbeth Trio, her group, is heard regularly in concerts and clubs. She is capable of lyricism as well as hard driving bebop, which creates truly wondrous pianism. Carolbeth was the 2004 recipient of the St. Louis Magazine "Musician of the Year" Award.
Debby and Carolbeth have been playing together since they met at a St. Louis Muny production, where Carolbeth was a rehearsal pianist/assistant musical director for more than 20 years. Don't miss their breakthrough performance in the Jack Buck Grille on Friday, Sept. 15.
