Salute America's Veterans at a Luncheon
Without the brave soldiers who have fought for this country, America would not be what it is today. Show your gratitude for the courageous men and women who have stood on the front line for the United States at the 2006 Veteran’s Day Commemoration on Friday, Nov. 10. This annual celebration will feature special guest speakers, a luncheon, entertainment and a cash bar. The M.A.C. Veteran’s Day celebration begins at 11:15 a.m. with military exhibits and a cash bar in the Eads Room. The luncheon will begin at noon in the Missouri Room, and the program starts at 12:30 p.m.

The Master of Ceremonies will be Major General John Dorris from the USAFR. The speaker at this year’s event will be General Norton A. Schwartz, Commander of the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). USTRANSCOM is the single manager for global air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense. After graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1973, Gen. Schwartz has served in many roles within the military, including Commander of the Special Operations Command-Pacific. Prior to assuming his current position, General Schwartz was Director, the Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

Medal of Honor Recipient Russell Dunham
will also be recognized during the commemoration. On Jan. 8, 1945, Sgt. Dunham single-handedly assaulted three enemy machine guns during an attack in France. Wearing a white mattress cover to camouflage himself, he snuck up a snow-covered hill under fire from two machine guns and supporting riflemen. Although a bullet ripped into his back, Sgt. Dunham managed to kill nine Germans, wound seven and capture two. Despite his painful wound, Dunham spearheaded a spectacular and successful diversionary attack.
