This Week at the M.A.C.

We're officially in the midst of the holiday season, which means there are plenty of things to do at the Missouri Athletic Club. Get in the spirit at one of the Club's many seasonal events this week: the Christmas Dinner Dance, Family Night with Santa, a Fox Theatre trip to "A Christmas Carol" or a Christmas Brunch. Or, if you're ready for a "time out" from the Christmas celebrations, take a sports break with the Jack Buck Sports Awards or a Rams buffet. No matter what mood you're in this week, there's an event at the Club that is suited for you.

Spend an afternoon at the M.A.C. and get half of your shopping done right here in your own clubhouse! Your loved ones will be tickled when they see the unique gifts you came up with.

Ring in New Year's at the Missouri Athletic Club
Whether you're in the mood for a low-key evening or an elegant gala, head to the M.A.C. to ring in the New Year. As always, the M.A.C. will host the party of the year, the New Year's Eve Gala, on Sunday, Dec. 31. If you'd prefer a more private gathering, head to the Jack Buck Grille/Rendezvous Room for an elegant sit-down dinner. Either way, you'll welcome 2007 with a clink of glasses, delicious food and great service.

Take the Plunge
Help Your Child Swim Faster at the Downtown Club’s 2007 Free Clinic
Cold days and little access to a pool can prevent a lot of competitive swimmers from getting water time in the winter. Instead of letting your child’s swimming skills wane during the colder months, the Downtown Clubhouse is bringing its popular swimming clinic back for the second year in a row. This six-week workshop is intended to help kids, from first to eighth grade, who already know the basics of swimming and want to focus on improving their skills. Classes will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sundays, from Jan. 7 to Feb. 11, barring a Rams playoff game.

Be on the Defense
Take Defensive Bridge Lessons
Learn about an integral part of bridge most ignore: defense. On Mondays from Jan. 22 to March 12, the M.A.C. Bridge Club will sponsor defensive bridge lessons at M.A.C. West. Linda Powers, a silver life master in bridge, will teach you to sharpen you defensive skills and make the game more fun and exciting.

This class will teach you how to communicate with partners through defensive signals and play more difficult for a declarer. You will also learn about correct leads and the reasons behind second hand low and third hand high. By playing good defense, you often make a good declarer seem average. Come join the fun on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. The eight-week session costs $120. To make reservations, please call Courtney Kranz at 539-4402.

Thinking of Running a Marathon (or a Half Marathon)? The Downtown M.A.C. wants to help you train for the St. Louis Marathon on April 15. Recommended workouts will be posted daily in the cardio rooms, or pick up a master calendar for those days you can’t make it to the Club. It’s easier than you think! The marathon training will begin today, Monday, Dec. 11 and the half-marathon training on Monday, Jan. 22. Call Jeff Tuhro at 314-539-4485 if you have any questions.
