| Changes
to the MAC Campaigning Process
The
annual season of campaigning for election to the Board of Governors
of the Club is fast approaching. It is one of the most exciting
times of the year at the Club. This year the Board has approved
certain changes to the campaigning process that should be noted
by potential candidates and campaign workers. All of the changes
are intended to make the campaigning a bit less cumbersome and allow
more members to be involved in an election process that is truly
unique among clubs.
• Members are now allowed to campaign for more than one candidate.
• Campaign committees are no longer limited to 25 members.
There is no limit on the number of committee members this year.
• Members of the Inspection and Policing Committee (other
than the Chair and Vice-Chair) are now allowed to endorse candidates
and serve on campaign committees.
• The Club’s sleeping rooms may now be used by candidates
on election day (prior to the closing of the polls) for entertaining
and electioneering.
• The number of members who may attend a campaign lunch or
dinner has been increased to 50.
• The election-day gauntlet hours have been expanded to 12:00
to 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
If you are considering running for the Board, please drop by the
Downtown Clubhouse and ask for a copy of the newly revised Code
of Ethics for MAC Elections and the newly revised Bylaws of the
Club, both of which implemented these changes. To see a copy of
these changes online click here.
Both running for a position on the Board and campaigning for a
candidate are great ways make and meet new friends and to become
further involved. Good luck to all candidates in this year’s
election.
