Meet, Mix and Mingle at MAC Happy Hour
The Associates are shaking up your Friday night on April 18. The group is sponsoring a happy hour for all members in the Sportsman’s Club Downtown. Mix and mingle with fellow members and relax after a long work week. Start your weekend off right with $1 draft beers and $3 martinis. There will also be an appetizer special menu. Click here to see the menu. If you’re a vodka-lover, there will be a flavored Stoli vodka tasting table set up for you to sample the latest varieties of vodkas. There is no charge for this event and no reservations are required. All members are welcome to come and are encouraged to bring a spouse, date or guest.
Experience MAC Election Excitement
Election Day is one of the greatest traditions in the history of the MAC. For decades members have gathered in the Downtown lobby to cast their vote to select the next class of the Board of Governors. This year is no different. On Thursday, May 1, members will again fill the lobby and walk through the famed gauntlet amidst campaign promises and handshakes. All members are encouraged to come to the Club and vote in person on May 1. Members must have their membership card with them to enter the Club on Election Day. Polls will open at the Downtown Clubhouse at 7 a.m. and stay open until 6:30 p.m. A complementary buffet dinner will be served from 5:30-8 p.m. Come share in the camaraderie with fellow members, and help shape the future of the Club. Click here to meet the candidates.

Funk, Blues and Grooves in the JBG
Make a dinner reservation for Friday, May 2, in the Jack Buck Grille and you definitely won’t be singing the blues. A few members of The X band, a popular 12 piece all occasion band, will be bringing down the house with funk, blues and grooves. Formed in 2005, The X was created to deliver jazz, swing and pop music with up and coming young musicians. A number of The X members are from the growing music departments at Webster University and SIU-Edwardsville. Recently, The X has been featured at The Ritz-Clayton and The Heart Ball Gala. You can also catch The X at the MAC's annual Father / Daughter dance or after a Friday and Saturday night Cardinal Game at The Hilton - Ballpark hotel. Drop by for dinner or drinks in the Grille and relax and dine to memorable jazz, groove and blues numbers. The X Band will play from 6-9 p.m. To make a reservation, call 314-539-4417.

Cardinals Tickets Available!
The MAC has tickets available to several Cardinals games throughout the season. There are 2 seats available for $52 each ($104/game) in section 132, Row J, Seats 16 & 17. If you are interested in purchasing these tickets, please contact Larry Thompson at 314-539-4427.

Great Golfing through the MAC
Hit the links at one of seven top local courses where MAC members enjoy reduced rates and special privileges. Two new courses have been added this year to enhance your golf experience even more. Quail Creek was designed by three-time U.S. Open Champion Hale Irwin and has the characteristics and qualities of a championship layout. St. Clair Country Club has also been added to give you another country club experience. Diamond Club members have access to the special golf privileges. If you are not a Diamond Club member but would like to sign up for golf privileges, contact Tara in Accounting at 314-539-4432. The fee is $300. Click here to see all the golf opportunities available.

Start your golf season off with a hole in one. The MAC is hosting an Opening Day Golf Tournament on Thursday, April 24, at Fox Run Golf Club. Play begins with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Tournament format is to be determined, but everyone will play their own ball. The cost is still TBD but will be around $75 for 18 holes. There are a limited number of spaces available, so please sign up quickly. Click here if you are interested in signing up. For more information, contact Raj Bhuyan at 314-409-4601 or rajb@mac.com.

Hold Your Next Birthday Bash at the MAC
If you’re fresh out of ideas for your child’s next birthday bash, consider hosting it at MAC West. Sports Camp coordinator Eric Saxton and staff provide a hands-on and active celebration that can be tailored to the interests of your child and their guests. Parties can take a specific theme like a flag football party, or can be more general and will include camp like activities such as scooter relays, sharks and minnows, capture the flag, basketball, floor hockey, etc. The enthusiastic staff monitors and instructs the children in the specific activities. With all the action these kids are getting, they are sure to need to be refueled and refreshed. MAC West offers a catering option for all birthday parties. There is a 25 child limit per party. Costs vary based on time, number of participants and catering options. For more information or to book a birthday bash, contact Eric Saxton at 314-539-4468 or Tim Kelley at 314-539-4476.

What do the 2008 NCAA basketball champion KU Jayhawks have to do with a simple child’s game played in Canada in the 1870s? The game involved knocking a small rock off a large rock by tossing another rock at it. James Naismith recalled the game when, serving as YMCA Athletic Director in Springfield, MA and looking for a sport that could be played inside during the winter, he created the game we now call basketball. The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets as goals. Learn more about the life of Dr. James Naismith (KU’s first basketball coach) when his granddaughter, MAC member Helen Carpenter speaks on The History of Basketball.
