June
Cherry Diamond
You’re
probably feeling the summer heat starting to set in, but don’t
slow down and get lazy. There are plenty of great activities happening
at both clubhouses to keep your summer full of fun. There are ongoing
sports camps for the kids. They are specific to certain sports,
but also a general camp that touches on a little bit of everything.
The MAC Penguin swim team is also back in the pool and hoping to
have another great season. The kids aren’t the only ones who
will have fun at the Club this summer. A special brunch to honor
dad is taking place on Father’s Day, June 15, at the Downtown
Clubhouse. Bring down your dad and show him how much you appreciate
him with a scrumptious meal at the Club. MAC West is offering a
Poolside Wine Tasting on June 20 to sample a variety of wines. Chef
Bart has also brought back lobsterfest in the Jack Buck Grille and
this year has added a prime rib special at the Downtown Clubhouse
throughout June and July. With so much happening at your Club, don’t
sit back and let it all pass you by. Make the MAC a part of your
summer plans.

Dads
& Daughters Share a Special Evening at the Club
Doting dads and darling daughters shared a special evening at the
MAC Father-Daughter Dance. The little ladies got dolled up in colorful
spring dresses, had their hair pulled up in curls and nails painted.
As the dads and girls arrived at the Clubhouse, many were met by
beautifully groomed horses pulling fairy tale carriages waiting
to whisk them through the city for a special ride. In the Art Lounge,
girls could order kiddy cocktails and sodas while dads enjoyed more
sophisticated beverages. A photographer was on hand to capture the
special moment with a photo from the evening that the girls could
take home along with their delicate glass jewelry box. After feasting
on a delicious dinner, dads and daughters hit the dance floor where
many danced until they could not dance anymore.

Basketballers in L.A.
Recent
results from a national tournament shows how strong basketball is
at the MAC. Three MAC basketball teams recently traveled to Los
Angeles to compete in the National Association of Club Athletic
Directors basketball tournament. The Los Angeles Athletic Club served
as the host for this annual event that brings together the top private
club teams from around the country. The MAC was instrumental in
forming this event back in 1986.

Capital
Contribution Update
Repairs
are ongoing on the parking garage at the Downtown Clubhouse as part
of the Capital Contribution program. The garage was built in 1985
and extensive repairs were done in 1995. The repairs currently underway
are the most extensive since the 1995 work. Over half of the repairs
being done to the garage will take place on the sixth floor roof.
Because the roof is open to the elements, particularly freezing
and thawing, it has the biggest demand for repair. During the winter,
cars driving into the garage bring with them salt from the streets.
The salt on the cars often melts off of cars parked on to the roof
due to the sun. This water/salt mixture seeps into pores in the
concrete and onto the re-bar structure underneath. In turn, the
re-bar begins to rust and expand. As it expands, the concrete is
popped off the re-bar causing even more moisture to build underneath
the concrete and further expand it.
The work currently underway is chipping away all loose concrete
to expose the re-bars. The re-bar is then recoated and new concrete
is poured over them. The roof will also be getting a special traffic
coating to stop future run off from getting to the re-bar. Other
levels of the garage will receive a sealer. The roof work should
continue through the end of June, and the whole projects should
be finished towards the end of July. Read the Buffet for future
updates.
