And the Winner Is... The winner of the 2008 Sports Personality of the Year Award is University of Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel. Pinkel has built the Tigers into one of the top programs in the nation. Last season, he guided Mizzou to one of their greatest seasons in school history, earning a #1 ranking in the A.P. poll for the first time since 1960 and a Cotton Bowl Victory over Arkansas. Pinkel is the third coach from Mizzou to be honored with the Sports Personality of the Year award. Al Onofrio won the award in 1972, Warren Powers in 1978 and basketball coach Norm Stewart was honored in 1992. Pinkel will be honored at the 39th annual Jack Buck Sports Awards on Monday, Dec. 15, along with many other distinguished members of the St. Louis Sports Community. Wine Tasting and Sale Christmas is just seven weeks away! Check some people off of your holiday gift list by purchasing fine wines at the MAC Wine Tasting and Sale on Friday, Nov. 14. You will not only have the chance to sample all of these fine wines from several local wine vendors, but you will also have the chance to purchase bottles for a fraction of the cost. MAC Speaker Series The MAC Speaker Series will kick off in the Art Lounge on Wednesday, Nov. 19, with former Governor of Missouri Bob Holden. Governor Holden had a career in public service for 25 years, eight of which were as the Missouri State Treasurer and four as the Governor. He founded the Holden Public Policy Forum at Webster University, which is a forum for distinguished speakers to openly discuss ongoing public policy. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with registration followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the program at 12:15 p.m. The cost to attend is $20, which includes lunch and garage parking. Musical Monopoly Take an imaginary trip around the board game of Monopoly to musical stops on the familiar streets, railroads and Chance cards of this beloved pastime at the Apollos annual fall concert on Friday, Nov. 21, at the Downtown Clubhouse. You will be singing along to tunes such as “Under the Boardwalk,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Downtown,” and “Tennessee Waltz.” The Apollos have been singing for members ad guests at the MAC for over 60 years now. Join Santa for dinner at MAC West or breakfast at the Downtown Clubhouse during the month of December. He will be stopping by the West Clubhouse on Fridays, Dec. 5 and 12, to visit with families and feast on a fantastic dinner buffet. On Saturdays, Dec. 13 and 20, he will bring his sleigh to the Downtown Clubhouse for a delicious brunch and photos. Christmas Dinner Dance Start off your holiday season on the right foot. Attend the Christmas Dinner Dance on Saturday, Dec. 13, and put yourself in a holiday frame of mind. Enjoy a gourmet dinner and music from Josef Polach and St. Louis Express. Whether you have been taking dance lessons this fall or just want to show off some of your moves, the MAC is a great place to spend a Saturday evening out.
