And the Winner Is...

The winner of the 2008 Sports Personality of the Year Award is University of Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel. Pinkel has built the Tigers into one of the top programs in the nation. Last season, he guided Mizzou to one of their greatest seasons in school history, earning a #1 ranking in the A.P. poll for the first time since 1960 and a Cotton Bowl Victory over Arkansas. Pinkel is the third coach from Mizzou to be honored with the Sports Personality of the Year award. Al Onofrio won the award in 1972, Warren Powers in 1978 and basketball coach Norm Stewart was honored in 1992.
Pinkel will be honored at the 39th annual Jack Buck Sports Awards on Monday, Dec. 15, along with many other distinguished members of the St. Louis Sports Community.
