Celebrate New Year's Eve In Style
Ring in 2009 from the streets of New Orleans. This year’s New Year’s Eve Gala will feature a Mardi Gras theme, so don’t forget your feathers and masks. Drink all night long for just one price. An open bar is included in the cost, so you won’t have to worry about settling your tab at the end of the night or having enough cash for all of your drinks. Special hurricane drinks will also be available. This New Year’s Eve will really be the Big Easy! This year’s Gala will feature a new eight piece band, Arvell and Company. Arvell and Company has a traditional big band sound, but also incorporates a jazz feel that will have you on the dance floor all evening long. Revelers are encouraged to dress to the theme with lots of feathers, masks, beads and bright colors. Jacket and tie is required. Creative black tie is optional and a call to have fun with your look. Come in your tux with a bright colored cummerbund or pocket square or wear a wacky tie, and ladies don’t forget your glitz and glimmer. Creativity is encouraged so don’t be afraid to express the spirit of Mardi Gras in your outfit. The evening will begin at 7:30 p.m. with lavish hors d’oeuvres and an oyster/crawfish bar. Dinner will be served at 8:45 p.m., followed by dancing to entertainment by Arvell and Company. At 1 a.m. a continental breakfast will be served. The cost is $125, per person, plus gratuity. Swim Faster, Farther and Better
With snow in the forecast, it’s hard to imagine sitting around the pool deck at MAC West. But in just over six months the pool will be back open, and your kids will be eager to jump back in. Sign them up for a winter swim clinic to keep their swim skills strong and in their memories. The Downtown Clubhouse will be offering a free swim clinic for kids in first through eighth grades that already know how to swim, but would like to improve their technique. Instructor Richard Nix and his staff will once again teach the clinic. The focus is on swim quality, not on endurance. Classes will be held at the Downtown Clubhouse on Sundays, from 2 to 3 p.m. The six-week session will start on Jan. 11 and conclude on Feb. 15. The clinic is free, but space is limited. Call Rick Schneider at 314-539-4434 to reserve a spot today.
