JUST ANNOUNCED... 2008 Olympian Dawn Harper will be honored with the Carl O. Bauer Award at the 39th Annual Jack Buck Awards on Monday, Dec. 15. Also, Frank Cusumano will receive the Burnes/Broeg Award. The Burnes/Broeg Award is presented to an individual in recognition for years of promoting St. Louis through sports. Other honorees include Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel, who will receive the 2008 Sports Personality of the Year Award, Former Rams coach and current commentator Jim Hanifan, who will be honored with the Legends Award, and Blues broadcaster Kelly Chase, who will receive the Jack Buck Award. Dawn Harper- Carl O. Bauer Award
The Carl O. Bauer Award recognizes a top amateur sports figure. This summer at the Beijing Olympics, Dawn Harper captured Olympic gold like her idol Jackie Joyner Kersee by winning the 100-meter hurdles. She went into the race as the underdog. The East St. Louis native's Olympic triumph came less than six months after arthroscopic knee surgery, weeks after qualifying by .007 seconds. Harper saved the best race of her life for the Olympics, when she ran a personal-best time of 12.54 seconds to edge Australian Sally McLellan by one-tenth of a second.

Frank Cusumano- Burnes/Broeg Award
Frank Cusumano will receive the Burnes/Broeg Award, which is presented to an individual in recognition for years of promoting St. Louis through sports. Frank is one of the most hard-working and popular members of the local sports media. The KSDK reporter and co-anchor of Sunday Sports Plus has earned 8 Emmy awards. Cusumano is also the host of the Press Box on KFNS Radio, where tackles the biggest issues in sports and uses his deep connections to help land the biggest name guests in the business. Cusumano was a high school basketball star at DeSmet High School and part of their undefeated state championship team, prior to playing at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Gary Pinkel- 2008 Sports Personality of the Year
The winner of the 2008 Sports Personality of the Year Award is University of Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel. Pinkel has built the Tigers into one of the top programs in the nation. Last season, he guided Mizzou to one of their greatest seasons in school history, earning a #1 ranking in the polls for the first time since 1960 and a Cotton Bowl Victory over Arkansas. Pinkel is the third football coach from Mizzou to be honored with the Sports Personality of the Year award. Al Onofrio won the award in 1972, Warren Powers in 1978. Former Missouri Basketball coach Norm Stewart was honored in 1992.
Jim Hanifan- The Legends Award
Jim Hanifan came to St. Louis in 1973 to serve as the offensive line coach for the football Cardinals. In 1977, he earned the NFL's Assistant Coach of the Year Award, while coaching football's top line led by Pro Bowler's Dan Dierdorf, Conrad Dobler, Tom Banks and Bob Young. Hanifan was named the head coach of the Cardinals in 1980 and was in that role until 1985. He guided the Gridbirds to the playoffs in 1982. After a successful stint as the offensive line coach for the Washington Redskins and was on the staff of the 1991 Super Bowl championship team. Hanifan returned to St. Louis in 1997, where he coached the offensive line until retiring following the 2003 season. Hanifan's offensive line was an unheralded key to the success of the "Greatest Show on Turf" which led the Rams to two Super Bowl appearances. Since 2004, Hanifan has been the colorful color commentator for the Rams radio broadcasts and hosts a weekly show. He wrote an autobiography recounting his career titled "Beyond X's and O's: My Thirty Years in Football."
Kelly Chase- Jack Buck Award
Blues broadcaster Kelly Chase will be in attendance at the 39th annual Jack Buck Sports Awards on Monday, Dec. 15, to receive the Jack Buck Award, in recognition of enthusiastic and dedicated support of sports in St. Louis. Chase was a popular player whose feisty style endeared himself with fans. After retiring from his playing career, Chase has remained a part of the St. Louis sports community. In 1993, he established the Gateway Locomotives, which teaches the sport of hockey to handicapped individuals. In 1998, Chase received the King Clancy award from the NHL, which is given to the player who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community. Blues broadcaster Chris Kerber will present Chase with his award.
