Patrick McCarthy Elected Next President of the MAC
Four Other Officers Named
Patrick J. McCarthy has been elected the 94th president of the Missouri Athletic Club. The Club’s 15-member Board of Governors elected McCarthy and the other senior officers on Thursday, March 5. All will begin a one-year term of office in May.
McCarthy, 55, is Senior Agent-in-Charge for Special Services. He is a third generation MAC member who joined the Club in 1980. McCarthy and his wife Susan have two children, Kathleen and Daniel.
McCarthy has served on the MAC Inspection and Policing and Athletic Committees. He has been active with the MAC Toastmasters, the Apollos and the LB Table. McCarthy recently served as the House Committee Chairman.
Elected first vice-president was Larry D. Hale; elected second vice-president was Bert M. Linton; elected secretary was Tony Daws and treasurer was William B. Winkeler.
McCarthy will succeed Philip “Flip” Schwarz as president and take office on May 21.

Last Chance for Trivia

Majerus Madness
On Sunday the NCAA Tournament brackets will be announced. Before you prepare to fill out your bracket, get some advice from an expert. Saint Louis University basketball coach Rick Majerus knows what it takes to be successful in the Tournament. He will be at the MAC on Monday, March 16, to preview March Madness. Majerus has a successful record in the Tournament. He led 11 teams to the NCAA Tournament with 10 of those teams advancing at least past the first round. He led Utah to the Elite 8 in 1997 and to the championship game in 1998. In 1977, he was the assistant coach at Marquette when they won the national championship. Don’t miss this opportunity to sit down with Coach Majerus and gain insight into the Tournament. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Downtown Clubhouse. Easter Eggstravaganza
Everyone’s favorite furry friend, the Easter Bunny, will be visiting the MAC two times in April. The Bunny’s first stop will be at MAC West for Family Night on Friday, April 3. All of your traditional Family Night Buffet favorites will be served. Children will have the chance to visit with the Easter Bunny and have a photo taken. Candy will be handed out to kids following the visit and egg-shaped cookies will be set out to decorate with pastel icings and other sweet treats. Seatings are at 5:45 and 7:30 p.m. The price to attend is $22.95, plus gratuity for adults and $10.95, plus gratuity for children age 3-12. Children under three are free. If brunch is more your thing, the Easter Bunny will be stopping Downtown on Sunday, April 12. A delicious spread featuring a dizzying array of desserts will be served for all. Kids can visit the Easter Bunny and watch movies and cartoons on a big screen. A petting zoo will be set up in the lobby with lots of furry friends. Kent Miller photography will also be on hand to snap a family photo. Easter Brunch typically sells out, so make your reservations early. The price is $29.95, plus gratuity for adults and $13.95, plus gratuity for children under 12. Children 3 and under are free. Spring Break Sports Camp
If an out of town trip isn’t in your plans for spring break, your family can still feel like it is getting a break from school at MAC West’s Spring Break Sports Camp. Your kids will be psyched to spend the day playing sports and making new friends, while you will get the chance to take some time for yourself for errands and relaxing. You won’t have to spend the week listening to your kids complaining that they are bored. The camp is similar to the holiday and summer sports camps. Participants will play tennis, racquetball, soccer, basketball, games and more. The dates are March 13, March 16-20, and March 23-27. The cost is $25, per half day or $50 per day, per child. Lent Buffet
Planning Friday night meals during Lent can be tough. Save yourself the headache of buying, preparing and serving a meat-free meal by heading to MAC West on Friday nights for the Lent Buffets. Each Friday during Lent the West Clubhouse will offer a scrumptious spread of lent-friendly items. The buffet will feature seafood chowder, various soups, Missouri trout almandine, fried Atlantic cod, popcorn shrimp, baked spaghetti and much more. March Speaker Series- NEW DATE!
The March Speaker series event originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, with Missouri’s Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder has been moved to Friday, March 27. Kinder, an MAC member, was elected Lieutenant Governor in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. Kinder played key roles in the Missouri Mentor Initiative and the Tour of Missouri Pro Cycling Race. He has been heavily involved in a number of key initiatives including the creation of the Missouri Military Family Relief Fund and the Senior Service Award. Speaker Series events begin with lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by the program at 12:15 p.m. The cost to attend is $20, which includes lunch and parking. To make a reservation, call 314-539-4470. |

FYC members will experience soaring as shared by Melvin Burkart, retired Naval officer and Boeing 767 Captain for TWA with extensive international experience. Currently Mel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Aviation Science and Technology of Saint Louis University. He is a Master Certified Flight Instructor and FAA Safety Team Lead Representative. Captain Burkart is a member and past governor of the MAC.

Lunch and Tour Group Trip The Lunch and Tour Group, formerly known as the Cherry Hatters, is heading south! On Thursday, May 14, the group will take a trip to Kimmswick, Mo., to visit the Anheuser Busch Estate.
The group will enjoy lunch at the Blue Owl Restaurant prior to the estate tour.
The tour will leave from MAC West at 10 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. The total cost will be $37 per person if a total of 30 people attend. The Lunch and Tour group welcomes all ladies to join them. Swim Team Registration If your children are interested in joining the MAC Penguin swim team, you must sign them up at one of two registration sessions at the West Poolside Café. Registration will be held on Thursday, March 26, and Tuesday, April 21, from 4-7 p.m. All interested participants must sign up in person.

New Yoga Session A new session of yoga will begin on Monday, March 16, at noon at the Downtown Clubhouse. Yoga tones muscles, prevents pains and mentally strengthens the body. The 8-week yoga session costs $50 for the session or $10 per class. Reservations can be made by calling Rick Schneider at 314-539-4434.
