June Cherry Diamond
Summer is finally here! Both Clubhouses will be bustling with activity in the coming months. The West Clubhouse is a main hub for summer family fun. With sports camps, swimming, dining and fitness classes, no one in the family will be bored. The pool will be the main attraction for many families. Don’t miss the Dive-In movie event or Fourth of July festivities out on the pool deck. For the adults, poolside happy hours have already begun and will continue every Thursday throughout the summer… The Downtown Clubhouse will also be busy with summer activity. The Club will be offering dining specials during the All-Star game festivities in St. Louis. And don’t forget about the weekly Cardinals dining specials offered throughout the season… As you can see on the cover of this month’s issue, the 2009-2010 Board of Governors are rolling up their sleeves and are ready to get to business. In May, five new governors were elected to the Board. Be sure to check out photos of all the election night excitement. The MAC is your summer headquarters. Check out this month’s Cherry Diamond for details on everything happening at the Club.

Father-Daughter Dance Photos
Doting dads and darling daughters shared a special evening at the MAC Father-Daughter Dance. The little ladies got dolled up in colorful spring dresses, had their hair pulled up in curls and nails painted. As the dads and girls arrived at the Clubhouse, many were met by beautifully groomed horses pulling fairy tale carriages waiting to whisk them through the city for a special ride. In the Art Lounge, girls could order kiddy cocktails and sodas while dads enjoyed more sophisticated beverages. A photographer was on hand to capture the special moment with a photo from the evening that the girls could take home along with a petite coin purse they each were able to choose. After feasting on a delicious dinner, dads and daughters hit the dance floor where many danced until they could not dance anymore.

Click here to see photos from the Father-Daughter Banquet.

ATTENTION: A large black Mont Blanc pen with a unique, snake-shaped clip was lost at the Father-Daughter Dance. This pen is very meaningful to the member as it was a gift from his father. If you found this pen, please return it to the front desk at the Downtown Clubhouse. Click here to see a photo of the pen.

Yoga Your Way to a Healthy You
If you have ever considered giving yoga a try, now is the time to do so. A new noon session is starting up Monday, June 1, at the Downtown Clubhouse. Yoga can strengthen the body and work muscles that may never have been worked before. This class is not just for women, men can find a tremendous benefit of yoga as well. Yoga is one of the few physical activities that has a "de-compacting" effect on the body which is essential to counter the effects of gravity associated with activities such as running or jogging. It also provides needed relief to such asymmetric activities as racquet sports and golf which torque the spine in only one direction. Yoga instructor and MAC personal trainer Andrew Francis gives you the top five reasons you should take up yoga today:
* Improves flexibility
* Improves muscular strength
* Improves posture and balance
* Reduces stress
* Studies show that it can lower blood pressure
The 8-week yoga session is held on Mondays and costs $50 for the session or $10 per class. Reservations can be made by calling Rick Schneider at 314-539-4434.

The Single Malt Whisky Society Kick-Off Event
The Board of Governors recently approved a request to form a new Club Within the Club - The Single Malt Whisky Society.  This club will offer members a unique opportunity to journey through the highlands and lowlands of one of Scotland’s finest gifts to the world.  Scotch whisky in the form of single malts has become the drink of choice among more and more connoisseurs of fine spirits. A great drink after several rounds of golf - another Scottish invention along with the kilt, the bagpipe and the famous Black Watch Regiment. To celebrate the newest club, noted author and whisky historian Bill Meyers will speak at the first official meeting on Wednesday, June 17. After a short, but interesting introduction to single malt whisky. Mr. Meyers will host a tasting of several of his favorite spirits.  He has a collection of over one thousand bottles.  Join your fellow members on June 17, at 6 p.m. in the Sportsman's Club, for a wonderful evening of single malts, hors d’ oeuvres, and great conversation in the warmth of familiar surroundings at the Downtown Clubhouse.  The cost is only $25 per person. For reservations, please call Stephanie Zinselmeier at 314-539-4470. Or you can register online. Click here to enter the member login area.
