Platinum Certificate
Have you utilized your Platinum Member Gift certificate? The program has been extended through the end of this year in celebration of the MAC being recognized as a “Platinum Club of America.” This is the highest honor in the private club industry and places the MAC among the top 3% in the United States. Since last December the Platinum Gift Certificate program has successfully recruited more than 100 new members. If you received a certificate earlier this year, you now have until the end of the year to personally offer one colleague, friend, or family member the opportunity to join free of initiation fee as a thank you for your continued support, as well as a way to share your fine Club with someone new. The program recently has been extended to include those with less than five years of membership. All certificate recipients are afforded the opportunity to join the MAC free of initiation fee (up to a $1,000 value). Please contact Patti Cundiff, Downtown (314-539-4429) or Julie Kueper, MAC West (314-539-4408) for assistance with the program.

Many will remember our August speaker, Harry Levins, for bringing us many hours of pleasurable reading with his stories on historical events and military affairs, as well as engaging book reviews in the Post-Dispatch. Levins, 67 (could be a FYCer!), retired in 2007 after 36 years with the Post. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 1963, he began his newspaper career at his hometown paper, the Rutland (Vt.) Daily Herald. He left late that fall for a two-year stint as an Army lieutenant, spending most of his hitch in Germany, as an infantry platoon leader. Late in 1965, Levins returned to Rutland as city editor. In 1969, he moved to Long Island’s Newsday as a copy editor. Two years later, he came to St. Louis. At the Post-Dispatch, he held a variety of jobs on the paper’s copy, wire and city desks. At the time he retired, he was the paper’s senior writer, specializing in military matters.
