September Cherry Diamond
September kicks off the MAC social season, and soon your calendars will be filled with a variety of events happening at both Clubhouses. Don’t miss a minute of the action. Be sure to look ahead at the calendar provided on page 10 of this month’s Cherry Diamond to plan your time at the Club… The first event to mark on your calendar is “A Night at Anthony’s” in the Downtown Art Lounge. Mr. Bommarito and the Wine Society cordially invite you to attend this elegant four-course dinner of culinary delicacies and exquisite vintage wines. You’ll feel like you're back at Anthony’s while in the MAC Art Lounge… The MAC is sports central for Rams, Blues and Billikens fans this fall. Stop by the Club before Rams home games to enjoy a delicious buffet. Legendary SLU basketball coach Rick Majerus will once again be at the Club to talk hoops at a luncheon where he will discuss the Upcoming Billikens season. The Blues will also be returning to preview their upcoming season at the annual Blues Breakfast. Players and coaches will be in attendance to answer questions and also provide autographs… When looking to entertain friends, family or business associates, the Jack Buck Grille is the perfect venue. The Grille will be re-opening at the beginning of September and will have a new look and a new menu… In athletics, several new fitness classes are starting up at MAC West. Downtown, a step competition is being held… Be sure to check out everything that is happening this month in the Cherry Diamond.

Support Your Club at the MAC Golf Classic
There is still time to put together a team for the MAC Golf Classic. The second annual tournament will be held on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Country Club at the Legends. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Preservation Foundation, which is raising the funds necessary for a major renovation that includes important life safety issues and upgrades to facilities that will position the Downtown MAC Clubhouse to best serve members today and tomorrow. Your day will begin with registration at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided at 11 a.m. The tournament will begin at noon with a shotgun start. A dinner and auction will follow the tournament. Enjoy a day of fun and friendly competition with your fellow MAC members while showing support for your Club. A Night at Anthony's in the Art Lounge
Mr. Anthony Bommarito and the Missouri Athletic Club Wine Society cordially invite you and your guests to attend an elegant four-course dinner of culinary delicacies and exquisite vintage wines in the candle-lit Art Lounge. Mr. Bommarito, a long time MAC member, was the owner of Anthony’s, a historic downtown restaurant. A Night at Anthony’s will be a unique opportunity for any member who enjoyed the privilege of dining at Anthony’s. Mr. Bommarito is now a large purveyor of world class wines. Rams Buffet
The Rams kicked off their first preseason home game last Friday. Football fans flocked to the MAC before the game to fill up on a delicious dinner buffet. On Thursday, Sept. 3, the Rams will be back in St. Louis for more preseason action. The MAC will again be hosting a dinner buffet. For just $25.95, you can feast on a scrumptious spread in the Sportsman’s Club from 5-7 p.m. Call 314-539-4470 for reservations. Or you can register online. STEPtember
Step into September and a healthier you by the end of the month. The Downtown Clubhouse is encouraging all members to use the stepper machines as part of their workout routine throughout September. To promote this great exercise, the Downtown Athletic department will be holding a friendly competition, STEPtember. After finishing your step workout on one of the step machines, turn in your name, club number, date and miles stepped that day to the Athletic Desk. At the end of the month, the person who has stepped the most miles on one of the step machines will be declared the winner. For more information, contact Rick Schneider at 314-539-4434. No reservations are necessary, just call for more info. There is no charge to participate.

Member Update form
A Member Update form was recently mailed out to all MAC members. If you have not returned your form, please return it with your next payment or drop it off at the front desk at either Clubhouse. Defense Bridge Lessons
Sharpen your bridge skills and make the game more exciting than ever before with Defense Bridge lessons at MAC West. Learn what is the right lead, the reason behind second hand low and third hand high, how to communicate with your partner through defensive signals and how to make play more difficult for the declarer. By playing good defense, you can make a good declarer seem average. The Defense Bridge Lessons will begin on Monday, Sept. 14. Lessons will continue Mondays, Sept. 21 & 28, Oct. 5, 19 & 26 and Nov. 2 & 9. The lessons will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the West Wing Banquet/Card room. The price is $120 per person. MU/IL Guest Rooms Available There are still guest rooms available for the Mizzou vs. Illinois Border War football game on Saturday, Sept. 5. Book your room now and hang around downtown all evening long. For reservations, call 314-231-7220.


Downtown Pool Closing for Cleaning The Downtown pool will close on Saturday, Aug. 29, and will re-open on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The pool will be cleaned and have general maintenance during the closure.

Sportsman's Breakfast Hours The Sportsman breakfast hours are 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Enjoy a delicious omelet or stack of pancakes. Call 314-539-4487 for reservations.
