Vote Now for the Sports Personality of the Year
Just 12 days remain to get your vote in for the 2009 Sports Personality of the Year. This year’s candidates include Mike Anderson, Ryan Franklin, TJ Oshie, Keith Tkachuk and Adam Wainwright. The award annually honors the top local sports figure. Jack Buck helped to establish this award in 1970. Vote now for the Sports Personality of the Year by clicking here. Ballots were also delivered in your recent statement and can be mailed in. All ballots must be received by Friday, Oct. 30. On Thursday, Dec. 17, the winner will be honored at a dinner banquet along with several other distinguished members of the St. Louis sports community. Trunk-R-Treat at MAC West
If you haven’t already figured out what you are dressing up as for Halloween you have just 1 week left. Come to MAC West on Sunday, Oct. 25, in your spookiest and silliest costumes for the fourth annual MAC Trunk-R-Treat. The frightening fall festival will be held from 4-7 p.m. Round up your little goblins and ghouls and head out to West for a haunting afternoon of fun. Games including the eyeball relay race and ring around the witch’s hat will be played. Show off your talent in the pumpkin carving contest. Bring in a pre-carved pumpkin, and the winning family gets their dinner free. Don’t forget to decorate the trunk of your car because ghosts will be floating from car to car looking for treats. Apollos Swing the Blues
Envision yourself in an old nightclub in the heart of New Orleans. There is a vocalist singing the blues while a band accompanies with soulful tunes. The Apollos will transform the Missouri Room into a similar setting at their fall show, “Swing the Blues.” on Friday, Nov. 20. The show is filled with many solo and chorus numbers that tell of loves found and lost. A 5-piece band will feature a wailing sax and a set of drums. Songs will include: Birth of the Blues, St. Louis Blues, Blues in the Night, Aint Misbehavin’ Red Roses for a Blue Lady, Am I Blue, Blue Skies, One for My Baby, Cotton Fields Back Home, Blue Moon, When the Saints Go Marching In, and more! Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The show will begin at 8:15 p.m. The cost to attend is $29.95 plus gratuity. Veterans Day Commemoration
Salute war heroes at an MAC celebration for past and present American veterans. The 2009 Veterans Day Commemoration will be on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Downtown Clubhouse. This year’s featured speaker will be Major General Gregg F. Martin. General Martin has been the Commanding General at the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center and Fort Leonard Wood since 2008. General Martin will speak following a delicious lunch and musical entertainment. The day will begin with military exhibits and a cash bar at 11:15 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by the program at 12:30 p.m. The price to attend is $25 inclusive per person. Rod and Gun Club Upcoming Event
The Rod and Gun Club is hosting the first annual sporting clays event on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the St. Louis Trap and Skeet Club in Pacific. Expert instruction will be available. There will be a gun show with gun fittings. You may bring your own gun or use one provided at the event. The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start, rain or shine. The cost is $60 per person, which includes 1 round of sporting clays, lunch and an MAC hat. The price does not include shells, which can be brought or purchased at the Club. There is a $20 cancellation fee per person if reservations are cancelled after Thursday, Oct. 22. This event is open to members and guests. Rams Buffet
The Rams will go up against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Oct. 25. Fill up on a delicious pre-game buffet and get in game mode at the MAC. Time is Running Out...
There are just over 60 days remaining to sponsor a new member to join at no initiation fee! The Platinum Club certificate offers up to a $1,000 value. You have read about the MAC Platinum certificate program over the past year. More than 300 members have sponsored a friend, family member or business associate. If you have been procrastinating, now is the time to act. The clock is ticking. The program will end Dec. 31, 2009. Beginning Jan. 1, the initiation fee will go into effect. Being able to personally offer one family member, friend or business associate the opportunity to join the MAC with no initiation fee is a terrific value to you and the certificate recipient, but above all, it is good for the vitality of the Club. Sponsoring a new member is easy. Simply provide the Membership Department with a name and contact info. They will take it from there. Fall Ballroom Dance Lessons
With holiday parties just on the horizon, start perfecting your dance moves. A new session of ballroom dance lessons at the Downtown Clubhouse will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The four-week session is held from 7 to 9:25 p.m. each Tuesday through Nov. 17. The price is $40, inclusive per person for Dance Club members and $45, inclusive per person for non-Dance Club members. The Lunch and Tour group have several fun upcoming outings that all are welcome to attend. On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the ladies will go to Pi restaurant in the Loop to try the President Obama Pizza. There will be a tour of the Craft Alliance afterwards, which is showing “Elements:  The Art of Textile Collage.” Dessert will be at Fitz’s. The group will meet at MAC West at 11 a.m. to carpool. You may also meet at the Restaurant. Fencing Exhibition and Clinic
Coach Hassan is hosting a free fencing exhibition at MAC West on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2:30 p.m. If you have never seen a fencing match or are interested in giving the sport a try, the exhibition is the perfect chance to see what it is all about. Coach Hassan will also be offering a 6-week fencing clinic at West beginning on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. The cost for the clinic is $120 per person for members and $160 for non-members. Hard-Body Yoga Due to the popular demand of Hard-Body Yoga an additional evening will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 5:45 p.m. beginning Nov. 4. The class is also taught on Mondays at 5:45 p.m. at the Downtown Clubhouse. Hard-Body Yoga is unlike your typical yoga class. If you want to develop a strong, lean, flexible body without spending hours in the gym every day, this is your solution! All you need is your body, an open mind and a yoga mat, and you'll discover what strong healthy bodies are made of! No reservations are necessary.
