December is the last month to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to offer a friend, family member or business associate the chance to join the club at no initiation fee… Another widely popular annual event every December is the Jack Buck Sports Awards. This year’s banquet is being held on Dec. 17. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright is this year’s Sports Personality of the Year award winner and will be honored at the banquet along with other distinguished members of the St. Louis sports community… Counteract those extra calories by jump starting your fitness routine. In January, the MAC will begin a biggest loser contest. Participants will get a health assessment, nutrition sessions with a registered dietitian and discounted rates on personal training sessions... American Legion Championship Trophy Comes Home
At a special meeting to honor Al Grosch of the Fred W. Stockham American Legion Post there was a surprise. Al managed baseball teams for Stockham Post during the 1950s. In 1956 the team he managed won the American Legion National Championship. This was the first team in Missouri to win the national title. It was decided in the 1970s to donate the trophy to the St. Louis Sports Museum at Busch Stadium. Due to the size of the trophy the Cardinals never had a proper trophy case to display the trophy.
Some of the men who played on the team contacted the Cardinals and worked with the Post and the Missouri Athletic Club to secure the trophy and a trophy case to display the championship trophy. The trophy is now located in a new trophy case in the Veterans Room on the 4th floor. The Veterans Room is the home of Fred W. Stockham American Legion Post. The Post would like to invite all MAC members to stop by and view the American Legion and Veterans memorabilia on display.
The Missouri Athletic Club was host to meetings in 1919 when the American Legion was formed. Fred W. Stockham St. Louis Post was one of the first American Legion Post formed in the county. The Missouri Athletic Club and Stockham Post are proud of their long relationship.
