The MAC Nominating Committee is currently seeking qualified candidates for the Board of Governors election. The MAC would like you to consider or someone you know as a possible board candidate. Serving on the board is the most rewarding experience offered here at the Club, and in the end, you'll receive much more than you give.

Running for the board is an enriching, wonderful experience. The opportunity to experience a club election as a candidate is a one-of-a-kind event. The camaraderie that develops between the candidates is something few ever forget. This is probably why so many candidates run two or three times if they don't make it the first time.
Make New Friends
If you become a governor, you'll serve a three-year term and work with five different classes of governors. Instantaneously you'll make 14 new friends and meet 10 new individuals in the two years to follow. You'll see these individuals throughout the year at monthly board meetings as well as countless events. The networking benefits you'll reap from making such close contacts is alone worth running for the board.

Almost every member of the Club and its staff will know your name. This has countless business benefits, as well as makes social functions even more enjoyable.
How to Run
Turn in packets
The first thing you must do if you want to run for the board is complete the basic information packets, which include a letter of intent, biography and photograph. These are due by Monday, March 22, at 5 p.m. to Patti Cundiff. The Nominating Committee will then take these packets and narrow the list of candidates to 10. Voters will vote on these 10 candidates on Thursday, May 6. The five people with the most votes will be the next class of governors. Winners will be announced around 8 p.m. on Election Day. Plan Your Campaign Strategy
There's several ways to to run an effective campaign. Campaigning begins Monday, April 26.
Head to the Club: It's wise to spend a lot of time at the Club during the election period socializing, shaking hands and wearing a nametag. If members meet you face-to-face, they'll probably remember your name when heading to the voting booth.
"Cold Calls:" When members vote, they must choose five candidates, but, chances are, they don't know five candidates very well. This means a nice phone call from a candidate will make a good impression on the voting member. Many successful board members have used this strategy in the past, but others have been elected without spending so much time on the phone.
Well-Connected Committee: Candidates are also allowed to form committees of unlimited numbers of members. They are are not allowed to make cold calls, but committee members can call members whom they're acquainted with. If you have a diverse committee involved in everything from basketball to the Apollos, your good name will be dispersed among a wide range of members. Having support in large groups at the Club, such as basketball or the Apollos, will increase your odds of winning.

How much does it cost?
Fortunately, the Club tries to make running for board extremely affordable. Candidates cannot print campaign material or literature, so there's no cost there. Also, Club rules dictate that members running for board can only have one formal social function, usually a lunch or dinner. There is also a limit on the number of people who can attend, so the event is not very costly.
How much time does it take to run?
If you want to run for board, it's wise to plan on dedicating some time to the cause during the election period. You'll spend 10 days campaigning and networking, but you'll receive three years of rewarding and unforgettable experiences. Besides, the events that candidates are asked to attend are all fun, and it's always interesting to get to know fellow members. Past candidates always say they enjoyed the campaign experience and formed impenetrable bonds with other members running for board.
What's required of board members?
Once you're on the board, the time it takes to actually serve on it varies from member to member. Each governor serves on several committees and are invited to attend all committee meetings. In a month's time, a board member averages three to five committee meetings, usually over the lunch break. Board members are also required to attend one monthly board meeting in the evening. In addition, they're encouraged to attend as many Club functions as they can, but MAC activities are always high class and enjoyable.
