BEAT THE HEAT TENNIS
We are in the middle of the summer heat and the prospect of a few hours of tennis, outdoors can be pretty unappealing when you consider the sun, and a heat factor which exceeds 100 degrees. If you brave the outdoors, don’t forget to don the sunscreen, take jug or two of water with you, be prepared to wet your towel to cool down the nap of your neck, and hopefully the courts you choose will have a shade tree nearby for break periods. An easier way to beat the heat of outdoor tennis, however, is to play indoors! The courts at the Missouri Athletic Club are air conditioned, making the sun, heat, wind and rain non-factors. Here are your options for playing tennis at the West Clubhouse this summer:
Random Court Time: You can book your court by calling the pro shop at 539-4444. The court fee is $22 per hour and courts may be booked up to one week in advance. We offer a junior rate of $11 per hour for those 18 years old and younger and parents playing with their young children. Junior court time cannot be booked more than 24 hours in advance and when you are checking in for the court, you will need to tell the pro shop attendant that you are playing with or as a junior in order to assure the proper rate is charged.
Private Lessons: Our teaching staff is the strongest and most varied in St. Louis. If you want to hone in on improving your strokes, getting started with tennis, getting back into the game, or just looking for a consistent, strong hit, a pro can be found for you! Just call our tennis director, Kim Steinmetz, 539-4413, to discuss the possibilities.
Play Group, Monday Nights:
Each Monday throughout August we have a group of players who come to the MAC to enjoy the competition with old tennis buddies and newly found fellow tennis players. We hit and play sets and both singles and doubles can be played. Play starts at 6 p.m. and runs for two hours if that’s what you’re up for. The cost is $13 per evening with anyone who holds permanent court time for the fall getting to play for FREE!
Space can be limited so please let us know you are coming by calling Kim Steinmetz at 539-4413.
